Do estate sales take credit cards? Cash, fees, and what to bring in Georgia

Yes. Family Estate Solutions of Georgia takes major credit cards, cash, or Easy ACH only (no personal or business checks). Cards add about 3% POS surcharge. Easy ACH adds a 1% QuickBooks processing fee. Cash has no surcharge. Shoppers also pay local sales tax for the county where the sale is held. Shopper fees are not taken from commission or from the family's proceeds.

Four boxes for what shoppers pay in Georgia: cash with no surcharge, Easy ACH with 1% QuickBooks fee, card with about 3% POS surcharge, and local county sales tax.
Card surcharge, Easy ACH fee, and tax are paid by shoppers. They are not taken from family proceeds.

Cash

Cash has no surcharge and no processing fee. Bring small bills if you can. We are not a bank. We may not be able to break a large bill on a $4 trinket. Personal and business checks are not accepted.

Easy ACH (1% QuickBooks processing fee)

Easy ACH is accepted when we offer it at checkout. It adds a 1% QuickBooks processing fee. That fee is paid by the shopper. It is not taken from commission or from the family's proceeds. Check the sales page for current public sales.

Cards, and the about-3% POS surcharge

Card shoppers pay a POS surcharge of about 3% on top of the tagged price (or the actual processor rate once it is set). That is the cost of running the card. It is not a tip. It is not a hidden tax on the family.

If you want to avoid card and ACH fees, pay cash.

Sales tax is by county

Shoppers pay local sales tax for the county where the sale is held. A sale in Gwinnett is taxed as Gwinnett. A sale in another North Georgia county is taxed as that county. We do not pick a favorite rate.

Tax is not taken from commission. It is not taken from family proceeds. See what the commission actually buys if you are here as a family instead of a shopper.

What to bring

  • Cash (no fee), Easy ACH if we offer it that day (1% QuickBooks fee), or a card you are willing to pay about 3% POS surcharge on
  • A tote, boxes, or moving blankets for fragile pieces
  • A tape measure if you are buying furniture
  • A plan to take home what you buy the same day

Questions people ask

Do Family Estate Solutions of Georgia estate sales take credit cards?
Yes. We take major credit cards, cash, or Easy ACH only (no personal or business checks). Cards add about 3% POS surcharge. Easy ACH adds a 1% QuickBooks processing fee. Cash has no surcharge.
Are shopper card or Easy ACH fees taken from the family?
No. Shopper fees are not taken from commission or from the family's proceeds. Families can read the fee story on the fees page.
Do I pay sales tax?
Yes. Shoppers pay local sales tax for the county where the sale is held. A Gwinnett sale is not the same rate as a sale in another county. We collect what that county requires.
What should I bring besides money?
A tote or boxes if you plan to buy several items, a way to move large pieces, and patience if the sale uses line numbers. Each listing will state that day's shopper rules when we have a public sale. See how line numbers work.
